Tarantula Nebula

This image won New Zealand Geographic's Astrophotography category for 2025. A truly stunning jewel of the southern night sky. It is a 4 panel mosaic (2 frames horizontal x 2 frames vertical) of the Tarantula Nebula (or True Lover's Knot Nebula), in a neighbouring galaxy of the milky way. The galaxy this nebula resides in is easily visible to the naked eye from Wairarapa Dark Sky Reserve and the nebula itself visible in basic binoculars. All images that comprise this mosaic were taken from Chris's home observatory in Martinborough.
